Greetings and salutations. Welcome to the ghostly month of
October!!!! October is a very busy calendar month. It is the
month of Yom Kippur, Columbus Day, the end of daylight saving, and of course Halloween.

It will be a very busy month for SCJR as well. We will start our
month off on the 7th with a KEEP BREVARD BEAUTIFUL
BREAKFAST in Cocoa Beach. All SCJR members are of
course welcome to attend, especially those that have given of
their time to support the club and KEEP BREVARD BEAUTIFUL by helping to clean our ADOPT A SHORE SITES. If you have interest in attending please email or phone one of the officers. It is a nice breakfast and awards for success in keeping your site clean will be given out. SCJR has never won anything in the past but hope springs eternal.

Next up on the SCJR agenda is our meeting on Tuesday the 10th. Our very special guest speaker will be MITCH NEEDLEMAN. Mitch is an elected member of the Florida House of Representatives. He is also fast becoming a celebrity of some note because of his parti- pation on local talk shows. He will be addressing us on boaters rights to water access, boat ramps, manatees, and how come there are so many derelict boats in Florida waters. Mitch is a very active polit-
cian and cares deeply about people and Florida waters. He is a
retired FWC officer and knows first hand waterway issues. So please make every effort to support our club and support our speaker. CHOWDERS is supporting SCJR by offering a dinner special for our special evening. NORM KOLSCH has authorized a buy one get one 1/2 price special for our meeting. So you have 2 great reasons to come out and share some time with you fellow clubbers, hear what Mitch has to say and get good grub cheap. Can't beat it!!

We have our clean up at Pineda Park scheduled on the 14th due to the conflict with the Keep Brevard Beautiful awards on the 7th. We are going to do something different this month. We're going to do the cleanup at 8am instead of 9:30 so we can mosy down to RJ's on the River. If you've never been there it is a quaint joint with great food. Located in Grant, RJ's also serves all you can eat breakfast for $4.99 on weekends. So after the cleanup we're headed for breakfast. Some folks are going to drive down while others will ride their trusty steeds (jetski). So if you are looking for a new adventure come on out.

The next day, Oct 15, JOHN KEREKES AND ALAN WHELPLEY are going to lead a ride on the St. John's. Depending on water height they will depart from Lake Washington or Lone Cabbage. They will forward an email to let you know the time and place.

Finally, CAPTAIN NEMO, aka BRAD GILBERT, is going to lead a trip down the KISSIMEE RIVER on October 28th. This is a beautiful ride with lots of varied Florida scenery complete with traversing through canal locks. This will require an early morning for most of you because we put in on State road 60 west of Vero and head down to LAKE OKEECHOBEE where we gas up and eat or vice versa. We will provide more details as we get closer to the end of the month.

So there you have it. Lots to do for the clubbers this month. If you snooze you lose. So lets not have any snoozing. Hope to see you this month at our upcoming events. RIDE SAFE-RIDE SMART. And SUPPORT THE SPORT, IF NOT YOU, WHO.

Your humble President,
Curt Smith
