April 2006

Welcome to April, the month of April Fools Day, Daylight Saving Time, Thomas Jefferson's birthday, and of course Easter.  A very busy month to be sure and here at SCJR it has already been very busy.  We started the month on April 1st with our first joint ride with the newly created Orlando Watercraft Rider Club in St. Augustine.  We had 12 folks including family members make the jaunt up to join the Orlando group.  Among those attending were Mike Ciannelli and his family, Paul Malloy, Janet Warren, John W., Tim Moberly, and my wife Linda and myself.  It was great meeting the folks from OWRC and riding  around the historic town of our forefathers and taking in the sights.

April 2nd most of the aforementioned group met up with members Brad Riggle and Cindy in Daytona and cruised some twisties around Daytona and New Smyrna.  Following the ride Brad, on his new 35 foot boat, served up lunch while we were all docked on "Disappearing Island" located at the Ponce Inlet.  The guys enjoyed all of the eye candy available on the island and the girls enjoyed watching all of the interaction between guys, girls and
the beautiful weather.  Both days provided lots of fun and good times.  What a great way to start the month!!

But that's not all.  John K, Tom Wilson, Fran Miron and Jim Wade showed up Saturday the 1st to perform the SCJR civic duty of cleaning our new digs at Pineda Park.  They picked up 4 trash bags of garbage.  Thanks guys for sacrificing your time and doing such a great job representing our club.

I want to remind everyone  of our meeting Tuesday the 11th at Chowders.   Russell Jamieson from Highway and Marine Insurance will be our featured speaker.  Please make every effort to attend.  It would be embarassing for the club to have a speaker and not have a good turnout. We again will have lots of goodies from the AWA to add to the 50/50 pot.  AWA t-shirts, dry gear bags, mag lites, document boxes will be given away to lucky winners.  So come out and share your evening with your fellow clubbers.  Bring all of your boat, jetski, trailer and car and truck insurance questions for Russell.  He is very entertaining and thoroughly knowledgeable.  Hope you can make it.  I want to offer a special thanks to member John Shields.  John came to the March meeting.  Why is that a big deal?  Well, John has recently had two major surgeries, one on his back and one on the vertabrae in his neck.  At the meeting he was in obvious discomfort and pain sitting on the restaurant chairs.  But he thought it important to support the club with his attendance and important to show his support for member Lou Lemire who was our featured speaker.  John has earned a big thank you from all of us.  If you see him at our April meeting shake his hand and thank him personally.  Thanks for caring John.

We will round out our rides with a trailering ride to Key Largo on the 22nd and a ride on the Kissimee River on the 29th.  These rides will be addressed in more detail at the meeting. We'll start off May with our clean up and a ride from Pineda Park on the 6th and follow that on the 7th with a ride to Daytona with Brad Riggle aka Capitain Verne leading the way.  Brad has affectionally earned the nickname because of his inventing prowess.  As you may remember, Jules Verne was a visionary and inventor of some reknown and Brad fits the mold very well.  And he is a great guy and alot of fun to be around.  So come join us on one or more of our upcoming rides and support the sport.   If not you, WHO?
