February 2006 Welcome to February, black history month, the shortest month of the year, and of course the month of love-Valentines Month!!! A famous Yankee baseball star, Yogi Berra, is credited with a now famous saying. "Its like deja vu all over again." Well here at SCJR its deja vu all over again too. I, Curt Smith, have accepted the role as president of our club. For those that may not know, I was the president of our group the first three years of its existence. And if you would like to know more of our history I would refer you to our website's archive section and click on to the November 2002 newsletter. That newsletter has a complete history of the beginning of SCJR through the first three years. In short, that history will tell you we started in January 2000 with some 17 people and by January of 2003 when I left office we had more than 80 paid members. Our membership has declined, but we will work to improve it. We have a terrific group of people willing to volunteer of their time to serve SCJR. They are VP John Wilansky, Secretary Tom Wilson, Treasurer John Kerekes, Event Chair Fran Miron, and Sherri Shields as Web Chair. Our vision is to get people active by being an active club. Our goal is to return SCJR to its former prominence in the world of PWC. We are going to get there by adhering to our chartered purpose which is to "HAVE FUN AND TO PROTECT OUR RIGHT TO HAVE FUN". To start, John Kerekes has sent out reminders to everyone that used to be a member asking them to rejoin by sending in their dues. We have set out to have rides on a regular basis including out of the ordinary trips like Jensen Beach, Lovers Key and Suwannee River. We are Further, the AWA has promised to help us grow our club by sending out post cards to every PWC owner in a 50 mile radius inviting them to join SCJR. We invite you to our February meeting on WEDNESDAY the 15th at Chowders. Tuesday was a scheduling conflict for Chowders, thus the Wednesday nite meeting. We are seeking input on our plotted course to grow our club. We will again have a 50-50 drawing with prizes for second and third place finishers. We will have special prices on selected SCJR apparel, like five-dollar t-shirts and fifteen-dollar rash guards. You have to eat dinner, be it liquid or otherwise so why not come to Chowders and share an evening with your fellow clubbers. See you there. SUPPORT THE SPORT. If not you, then who? Curt Smith |
