Meeting Minutes — July 2005
Tuesday,
July 12, 2005
The meeting was called
to order at 7:06 p.m. by President, Farieda Reardon. There were 12 members,
5 guests, and 3 children present at Chowders restaurant in Rockledge.
OLD BUSINESS:
The monthly cleanup was done as usual at front street park in Melbourne.
Need to locate the cards that we are supposed to send in to Keep Brevard
Beautiful to make sure they are aware we are doing our cleanup as required.
Club president
apologized that the weather forced a cancellation of our picnic last week.
AWA membership
was discussed again, all club members are supposed to be members since
this is a charter club of the AWA. Need to make sure that all officers
of this club are current with their AWA dues.
NEW BUSINESS:
An inquiry was made to the people in charge of the merritt island christmas
parade and/or local authorities and we were told that their is no chance
of them allowing us to participate at night in the parade.
Rashguards
came in and they went like hotcakes, email Patty if you need one or alternate
sizes. There may be a few left.
A 50/50 raffle
was run by andy and a Champions Honda guest won and donated the money
back into the club.
PRESIDENT REPORT:
Farieda reminded all members to get involved in the club
and participate as much as you can. Encouraged all to attend any and all
events coming up and reminded all to email anytime you want to do a ride
so others may participate. She also apologized that the weather forced
us to cancel our picnic last week.
V.P. REPORT:
Rick was m.i.a., probably working on his ski?
TREASURER REPORT:
Patty circulated a current report with status of members, current, due
and past due. She also sold some stickers, rashguards, etc. She also distributed
some AWA applications to those who needed to apply.
Patty's husband
Andy (former vice president of the club) introduced Rick, a potential
new member who just bought Patty's XLT1200 Yamaha and he is still speaking
to them so I take it that it is running well.
EVENT COORDINATOR:
Ride
Coordinator, Fran Miron, reminded all of rides/trips coming up. July 22nd
is the Lovers Key trip, the Jensen Beach run is still on for Friday, August
5th, August 14th will be the rescheduled picnic at Lake Washington park
and boat ramp, September 10th is the Florida Rally Series poker run in
Jacksonville, and October 8th will be the Suwannee River campout and ride.
WEBMASTER:
Sherri could not attend but sent word to remind all to visit our website
and checkout the photos, minutes of past meetings and club calendar along
with a bunch of other useful information.
SECRETARY REPORT:
Tom Wilson
(myself) presented the minutes from June for review, although they have
been posted on the web. I reminded all in attendance that our president
and other officers usually take on many tasks without asking for help
from the rest of the club so as not to be nagging or pressuring anyone
into chores. So if we have an event coming up and you feel like helping
by all means ask if you can help and we will graciously accept.
LEGISLATIVE REPORT:
Members were reminded to visit the AWA website to keep posted on upcoming
and ongoing battles and several areas were discussed that have either
banned watercraft use, threaten watercraft use and some that have repealed
bans on watercraft use because of the work of AWA lobbyists and the voice
of the watercraft owners and users. Again, get involved, we can make a
difference.
MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS:
Our own tony
gave a report on the Camp Armo ride and camp last weekend that some attended
even though the weather was far from perfect. Six PWCs churned up the
glassy water on the Little Econ and the not so glassy Lake Harney . We
rode up to the boyscout bridge and back. One boat and one canoe was all
that we saw on the entire trip, and not even a fallen tree could stop
Brad Riggle (of Waveeater Products) from continuing up the narrow water
of deep creek. The other five skis followed up to that point before turning
back. Was that a jetski or an ATV he was riding?
John W. gave
a short report of a recent trip to the Keys. He stayed at a beautiful
resort in Marathon and said he found it to be secure and friendly to PWCs.
Contact John if you are interested in finding out where he stayed, for
future reference.
John R. (the
man behind the current president) gave a report on the recent ride on
to Silver Springs and confirmed sitings of monkeys in the trees, crystal
clear water and peaceful idle zones to spend some time reflecting the
day.
GUEST SPEAKER:
Mike Marconi, general manager and part owner of Champion
Honda Kawasaki of Cocoa attended as a member and although not scheduled
as a guest speaker we asked him to speak about a few things. He suggested
that those who don't ride very often consider purchasing a battery tender
to keep the batteries trickle charged so that they are ready to ride when
you are.
Mike brought
his family and coworkers to again show support for our club. He encourages
new customers to attend rides and join our club. Quite often he offers
to pay first year membership for his customers if they join our club.
His parts man, Tony was present too and offered to lead a ride from Highway
520 to Highway 50 and back on Sunday the 24th of July, check the emails
for details.
Mike gave
out some discount coupons for merchandise and I thanked him for their
participation whenever possible. Mike said he and his crew usually cannot
attend Saturday functions but are always interested in rides or events
on Sundays.
ADJOURNMENT
A good time was held by all. Very productive and informative meeting was
adjourned by Farieda at 7:56pm. Fun meeting and quite productive, make
sure you are at the next one. |
