Minutes — July 2004
Tuesday,
July 13, 2004
The meeting
was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President, Rick Charshafian. There
were 23 members present. Rick welcomed the new members and guests; Chris
& Kathleen, Stacy & Mike, Rich Lake and Linc Price.
OLD
BUSINESS:
Rick announced that there were approximately 50 members and guests in
attendance at the Club picnic. The weather was great and the food was
enjoyed by all. Rick extended thanks and club appreciation to the vendors;
Culligan for the donation of water; Yamaha for the donation of $1000.00;
and Champions Honda for bringing out two demos--Kawasaki F1500 and a 2-seat
Honda. Polaris donated items for the raffle. Thanks were also extended
to Lou Lemire for donating back to the club the $75 he won at the picnic.
Thanks and appreciation to the cooks John Wilansky, Rick Charshafian,
and Ginny Conley. The club still has rally shirts with SCJR logo available
for purchase.
PRESIDENT
REPORT:
- Regarding
the Savannah Rally, Rick has been in contact with Palmetto Watercraft
Association of South Carolina; planning to attend the Savannah Rally.
The new magazine RIDE will have a camera crew in Savannah to
photograph the two clubs as they arrive hopefully at the same time.
Rick announced that AWA has the new magazine RIDE and is no
longer part of IJSBA.
- Rick requested
volunteers for Ride Coordinator for the August Indian River run (8/7/2004).
- Club appreciation
was extended to Peter for his hard work and effort restoring the club
newsletter.
- Farieda
announced that since Yamaha has made a donation, they need their banner
to be placed on our web site. Sherri said she would post the banner
as soon as it is sent to her.
- Rick requested
volunteers for the following assignments:

Contact for Information and New Member Orientation

Contact to meet with Retailers to obtain discounts extended to club
members

to coordinate next picnic at Sebastian

(accepted by John Kerekes, tentative date 9/2)

Board of Director’s Meeting: The Board members discussed ethics,
etiquette, and projecting a positive image on the water.
V.P.
REPORT:
Vice President, Andy Ziegler, requested
that members place club stickers on their jet skis.
TREASURER
REPORT:
Treasurer, John Kerekes, passed out copies of report for review by members
present.
EVENT
COORDINATOR:
At the club’s request, John Reardon reaccepted the position of Event
Coordinator.
Much applause and appreciation from the floor. Thank you, John.
WEBMASTER:
Web Master, Sherri Shields, requested members to send her photos and articles
for the web page. Sherri noted that on the web “Watercraft Illustrated”
listed jet ski clubs and none were listed for Florida. Sherri contacted
them and they corrected their list.
SECRETARY
REPORT:
Ginny Conley,
Secretary, passed out copies of June minutes for review by members present.
LEGISLATIVE
REPORT:
Legislative Advocate, Curt Smith, noted an article in Florida Today
newspaper stating that the manatee protection zone in Cocoa near the city
golf course had been withdrawn, however watercraft still have to go slow.
The club is connected with Standing Watch, which monitors boating
regulation.
GUEST
SPEAKER:
Technical difficulties prevented the guest speaker, Link
Price, from doing his presentation. Link accepted the Club’s invitation
to return for the August 10, 2004 meeting.
Rick announced that
the next Board of Directors meeting will be August 3 at Coral Bay restaurant
and encouraged members to attend.
Next ride August 7,
9:30 a.m., Front Street Park, cleanup followed by ride to Captain Hiram’s.
Lou Lemire offered
to answer any technical questions club members might have.
Rick suggested adding
information regarding club member’s various professions, in order
for the general membership to support each other in business.
There was
no 50/50.
