Meeting Minutes — March 2004

Tuesday, March 9, 2004
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President, Rick Charshafian. Two (2) guests were introduced, Tony Carlswell and Susan Huseonica. Four (4) new members were introduced. Steve Ross, new member from Boca Raton joined through the web site. Jim McDonald, Joe Watts, and Ginny Conley (new members) were present at meeting. Ginny Conley was introduced as volunteer to take minutes of meeting.

PRESIDENT REPORT:
Rick opened the meeting with a welcome to all present. Rick announced that JetSports Magazine will be doing an article about the club and will be covering the ride March 14, 2004. Also, Kathy Mathias from Florida Today will be taking photos from shore of the whole group. She will be doing an article on jet skis. The article should come out on the 21st of March. The ride will start at Front Street Park. Rick requested that everyone arrive ½ hour early for clean-up of site before the ride. Rick announced that there will be ½ hour site clean up before all rides, and stressed the importance of the club projecting a positive image, while protecting the right to have fun. Curt offered the use of his boat at this ride for the use of the camera crew. A vote was taken to decide which day was best for the ride this weekend. Sunday, March 14 was decided. There was discussion to start the ride at 10:00 a.m. because the lighting would be better for the photo shoots. Rick asked all members to send an e-mail to Florida Today and JetSports Magazine thanking them for covering the Club’s ride. He stressed the importance of jet skiers projecting a positive image while protecting their right to have fun.

V.P. REPORT:
With sorrow and sympathy it is recorded that Andy Zeigler had to leave the meeting before his report because his mother-in-law passed away.

SECRETARY REPORT:
Last meeting minutes were on web-site. Request made for approval. MOTION: To accept minutes as printed. PASSED. Had a meeting of the nominating committee in December.

TREASURER REPORT:
John passed around the Treasurer Report for review by the members present at meeting.

EVENT COORDINATOR:
Ride Captain, John, announced that starting in April, there will be rides on the first Saturday of every month. He mentioned the low water levels on the St. John’s. While the water levels remain low, the club will start the Saturday rides at Front Street Park. Everyone was requested to arrive ½ early for site clean up. He mentioned that riders could stop at Captain Hiram’s for lunch, go to Grand Islands, or play at the pavilion. John announced sponsors for April 3/4 ride. The host hotel is Key West Inn at Captain Hiram’s in Sebastian. John announced the dates for the Florida Rally Series: April 3/4 Sebastian, May 15/16 St. Petersburg, June 19, Stuart, July 16/18 Lovers Kay, September 18/19, Savannah. WEB MASTER:

John Kerekes announced that the Club’s domain name is good for four (4) years. Sherri asked for suggestions to change the front page of the Club’s website and asked for ideas to post information on the web page. Sherri reported that the U.S. Coast Guard is offering a boating safety course on March 20, 2004

NEWSLETTER CHAIRPERSON:
No report.

LEGISLATIVE REPORT:
No report.

OLD BUSINESS:
Rick mentioned that the speaker for last month’s meeting was from the organization, New Leash on Life.

NEW BUSINESS:
Bob Niedermuller presented a new cap style that might stay on better while riding, and asked if the club might be interested in a new cap style. There were volunteers to wear and test the hat for the upcoming ride. There is a 12-dozen minimum order and the price is $5.50-$6.00. Point from floor was made that if club were to change vendors, there would be a large expense for changing artwork. There was discussion from the floor regarding possibly selling hats at rally’s. There was question from the floor regarding status of shirts. Treasurer will check on sign design, hats, shirts, and decals.

There was discussion regarding the geographic location for the meetings, and it remained the opinion of the “present at meeting” members that Chase’s restaurant was most centrally located for the convenience of all.

A date, time, and location for the next Board Meeting was selected. The next meeting will be held on Thursday at 5:30 at Maaco, S. Irwin Ave. After that, Board meetings will be the first Tuesday of each month at Curt’s house. The club picnic will be discussed at the next Board meeting.

Rick asked for suggestions for a speaker for next month’s meeting. Lou Lemire volunteered to speak about jet ski maintenance. There was suggestion from the floor that a speaker about insurance would be informative.
