Meeting Minutes July ‘07
Tuesday, July 10, 2007
The meeting was called to order at 7:06 p.m. by President Curt Smith
( assisted by the Mighty Sergeant at Arms Tim Moberly in a very excited
and theatrical way that damaged our club gavel forever ) at Chowders restaurant
in Melbourne. 19 members and 4 guests were present..
GUEST SPEAKER: Jim Egan, from the Marine Resource Council
gave a great presentation on the importance of the natural protection
we get from dunes and mangroves. He showed hard evidence from overseas
that the once in 500 years tsunami did major damage in areas modified
by man and little damage in naturally protected areas.
Same thing with areas here in Florida with the hurricanes and how when
man tries to out engineer mother nature it comes back to bite us.
OLD BUSINESS: none
NEW BUSINESS : Discussed the importance of pretrip inspections
of trailers and skis, inflate tires to max pressure, check springs, bring
extra oil for ski, anchor and ropes, etc.
PRESIDENT REPORT: Curt informed all that he will be going
to Washington DC for the AWA freedom ride and will be taking lots of pictures
and representing the SCJR and showing our support..
V.P. REPORT: .John W. spoke about upcoming rides like
Lovers key and how the Naples club is prepping everything for us including
trimming the mangroves, ironically while the marine resource guy was standing
there gathering up his materials, ooppps! John will not be allowed to
speak publicly from now on until the guest speaker has left the building.
TREASURER REPORT: John circulated latest report, discussed
the finances and announced our member status is at 37 families consisting
of 60 plus people.
EVENT COORDINATOR: handled by the V.P. above
WEBMASTER: Curt reiterated that the website is still
very actively visited daily.
SECRETARY REPORT: I circulated the minutes from may for
review and approval and took a head count of how many were planning on
going to lovers key and on which day.
Member spotlight: , None
50/50 drawing: Josh Wilson sold $34 in 50/50 tickets and Karen Fleckinger
was the lucky winner. She said it would not change her life however she
would consider buying her own lake to jetski on and might even allow club
members to have annual picnics there as well. Or maybe I am exaggerating
alittle.
ADJOURNMENT: Meeting was adjourned at 8:42 pm by John
W. since Curt had to get a head start on packing for D.C.
