Meeting Minutes – October, ‘06

Tuesday, October 10, 2006


The meeting was called to order at 7:01 p.m. by President Curt Smith at chowders restaurant in Melbourne and 17 members were present.

GUEST SPEAKER: State representative from district 31, Mitch Needleman, gave a very informative talk on major changes on water access, local governments having power but not taking advantage of tools given to them to do something about derelict vessels and other issues pertaining to the boating industry. Go to the house of representatives website to find out more. Everyone enjoyed listening to Mr. Needleman as usual, he is very passionate about what he is doing and it shows.

OLD BUSINESS: Passed out more brochures

NEW BUSINESS: curt reminded all to start thinking of officer nominees for next year, gail suggested entering jet skis in the Melbourne Christmas parade. Alan gave a report on the status of the water height in the st. johns river

PRESIDENT REPORT: Thanked mitch for speaking, encouraged all to continue to spread the word about the club and try to increase membership

V.P. REPORT: . John asked anyone with ideas on Christmas dinner/gathering to email them to him to put out for discussion, said the Suwannee river ride looks like it will not happen this year. John also spoke about his recent visit to Sebastian state park and how, due to the no wake enforcement of everything except the channel, their was almost no one there. It has greatly hurt the appeal of boaters.

TREASURER REPORT: John was at a pension convention, unable to attend

EVENT COORDINATOR: Not present ( still upset about his injured tigershark I think ), curt filled in and spoke of club cleanup and ride to rj’s for breakfast, st. johns run on Sunday and Kissimmee river run on October 28th in Okeechobee

WEBMASTER: Chris could not be here so curt gave a report on website, 221 new hits in October, sep had 583 new hits and 1007 total hits.

SECRETARY REPORT:

Tom Wilson ( myself ) gave a report on the KBB breakfast and how we won fifth place in our category . I went over the minutes from last meeting and circulated a copy for all to inspect and accept.

Member spotlight: None

50/50 drawing: I didn’t win, I believe the president did.

ADJOURNMENT: Meeting was adjourned at 8:39pm, all who attended took advantage of a buy one dinner, get one half price special that chowders offered us to thank us and try to build attendance even more.
