Meeting Minutes - July '06

Tuesday, July 11, 2006

The meeting was called to order at 6:57 p.m. by President Curt Smith at chowders restaurant in Melbourne. One of our best turnouts in a while, there were 20 members , 2 guests and 4 children present.

GUEST SPEAKER: Bill Roeder, PAFB meteorologist did a marvelous presentation on lightning safety for us. We are in lightning alley, the thunderstorm capital. The most important tip being if you hear thunder withing 30 seconds af seeing lightning, go indoors until you don't hear thunder again for 30 minutes. All deaths are from cardiac arrest, but even the survivors have life ruining side effects for ever after.

OLD BUSINESS: none

NEW BUSINESS:

We passed out final assignments for the upcoming river rally at rotary park like collecting the great prizes being donated by sponsors , picking up food, banners, etc.

PRESIDENT REPORT:

Curt thanked Bill for donating his time to bring us such a great presentation and informing us of our options to stay safe. Curt also introduced the new members to the club and thanked them for joining.

V.P. REPORT:

John Wilansky made it back from Watertop Unlimited's Bimini Jet ski run in one piece and gave a glowing report on the first class treatment they all received by the professionals that organized and ran the event. He even brought back our own Tim Moberly unscathed so that the SCJR's didn't lose any numbers in membership this month. It was the trip of a lifetime that he highly recommends to anyone crazy enough to take.

TREASURER REPORT:

John Kerekes circulated the latest treasury report for all to inspect , we have aprox $1320 cash on hand and about $1300 in merchandise inventory. John has enough to do with collecting membership dues and doing the treasury reports, we really need someone to volunteer to be a merchandise agent.

EVENT COORDINATOR:

Fran Miron was present and spoke of our most recent cleanup at pineda park, lovers key coming up in two weeks and an open weekend coming up inviting others to come up with a ride.

WEBMASTER:

Chris could not be here so curt spoke of the latest postings on the web and of the growing photo gallery of recent rides and events. He also announced we are getting a new server with a $13.00 per month savings.

SECRETARY REPORT:

Tom Wilson ( myself ) was present and circulated a couple copies of the minutes from last month's meeting ,for approval. I also reported that I have turned in another email account of the July cleanup to KBB racking up more points for the club.

I also spoke of my families summer vacation to the beautiful lake Cumberland in Kentucky last week where we toured some of the 110 mile long lake with our 2 jet skis through deep, crystal clear , green freshwater along rock cliffs , springs and waterfalls. Unfortunately, since it was not a club event we spent most of the week sitting on a pontoon boat watching friends and acquaintances take turns adding hours to our skis. This is why we like riding with the club so much., you guys have your own skis!

Member spotlight: New members at the meeting wereDaryl and Tracy Hensley rwho received a family membership courtesy of Tom Wilson ( myself ) just for buying my other Yamaha GP1200R and plan on attending the river rally with it.

Also new to the club attending the meeting was Gordon Mark who has spent some time in the keys with boats and jet skis and wants to explore more with the club. ( I hope I am getting this right, I seem to have buffalo sauce and shrimp scampi on my notes from the meeting )

Veteran member Tim McKercher welcomed these new members to our fun group and announced that he plans on repeating the Bimini run next year with this years group getting first right of refusal.

50/50 drawing:

Tim Moberly used his good luck charm to win the 50/50 pot ( maybe that will make up for the fact that his ski would not start in Bimini not allowing him to brave the rough waters of the Atlantic ocean thus cheating him out of the thrill of sucking up seawater quicker than beer at happy hour)!

ADJOURNMENT:

Meeting was adjourned at somewhere around 8:30pm, right after my pen quit working from trying to fix my watch that seemed to have expired from the talk of the strange occurrences caused by the Bermuda Triangle. Most everything you have just read is true with some of the names possibly changed to protect the innocent and weak at heart.
