Meeting Minutes — March 2006
Tuesday,
March 14, 2006
The
meeting was called to order at 7:13p.m. by President Curt Smith at chowders restaurant in Melbourne. There were 17 members present.
OLD BUSINESS:
A report was given about
this month's Cleanup done by six members of the club on the usual first Saturday of the month at Front Street Park. One bag of trash was collected and disposed of while three members took a ride out on Lake Washington. I think they got the better end of the deal.
NEW BUSINESS:
The trifold handout that Alan Whelpley constructed was circulated for review. It's in color and the price is $650.00 +- and if the possibility of dealer or vendor advertising to supplement or offset costs was discussed.
Curt reminded all we are still in need of a merchandise chairperson. If anyone is interested it would be a small sacrifice that would be greatly appreciated. If we spread out the jobs it makes it a lot easier for all and leaves more time for fun.
A 50/50 drawing was held and Fran Miron was the lucky winner of the cash, Tim Mckercher won the waterproof gear bag that he will redistribute at the next PWC rally series giveaway and several others won some tee-shirts and other prizes. $23.00 was raised for the club.
PRESIDENT REPORT:
Curt commented on the importance of us all responding to any AWA emails we see concerning votes coming up on watercraft restrictions in the legislature. Even if it is an area that doesn't affect us directly, we need to help others now so they can help us later.
V.P. REPORT:
John Wilansky was on hand to go over special events coming up that he is helping coordinate, July 21 to 23 will be Lovers Key, the first week of August will be Jensen Beach, and April 1st will be St. Augustine with the Orlando club . Make your reservations now, you can always cancel later.
TREASURER REPORT:
John Kerekes circulated the latest treasury report for all to inspect, reminded all of t-shirts and rash guards at discounted prices and announced he has collected dues for aprox. 37 members at this time.
EVENT COORDINATOR:
Fran Miron was present and discussed the upcoming events: the Kissimmee River run has been pushed to April 22nd with Captain Nemo leading the way. May 7th is a Daytona run led by Brad Riggle, a possible camp armo camp and or run in June and maybe a scavenger hunt in June or July.
WEBMASTER:
Sherri Shields announced that she has posted pictures from Sundays Lone Cabbage run on the web, and listed past events in the calendar section of the website with a camera icon to show that pictures are available online for those as well. The President's Corner messages have also been added to the archive section.
SECRETARY REPORT:
Tom Wilson (myself) was present and circulated a couple copies of the minutes from last month's meeting for approval.
A Keep Brevard Beautiful (KBB) report was given. The board voted this month to move the cleanup designated spot from Front Street Park to the Pineda Boat ramp since attendance at Front Street has been weak for the last year or so. We thought that this would be a more reasonable meeting place for all since it is centrally located. I did the first cleanup tonight and turned in the results in person at KBB on Wednesday.
We found out the reason we have not been getting credit for past cleanups is that we had not been sending in cards with reports and when we emailed results we were using an old email address (even though it is still on their website).
LEGISLATIVE REPORT:
Funding for Fish and Wildlife programs for manatee zones is supposed to be receding and we should see some slow zones being phased out. We will have to wait and see.
MEMBER SPOTLIGHT:
None.
GUEST SPEAKERS:
Tim Mckercher gave a nice narrative about his upcoming rally series events and rides. Looks very exciting with some of the best venues ever. For the first time available to the public will be an adventure ride for the first 20 applicants to go from Miami to Bimini to the Bahamas and back with accommodations, chase boats, etc all included. St. Pete is coming up, Jacksonville, Minneapolis, etc. Check out these cool events (like bike week but with pwc's) put on by his company, Watertop Unlimited. We are very fortunate to have Tim as one of our members and we should support his efforts for all that he has done for the PWC industry and sport.
Tech Tips: Lou Lemire gave a nice talk on keeping your pwc and trailer preventative maintenance up to make your road trip and water trip a safe and fun adventure. Great tips on checklist items that can save you from turning good day into a bad one. Basic things like checking your fuel filter and battery charge, keeping connections clean and greased, make sure your steering and other cables are free moving and keeping trailer bearings greased and clean.
ADJOURNMENT
Meeting was adjourned at 8:28pm. President Curt Smith thanked all who attended and reminded all to encourage other members to attend future meetings.
