| Well we did it. We did the Magellan run. I’m
going to say it was a Hundred mile trip some folks came up with 92,
96, some had over a hundred. But we did it. We met up at Capt’
Hiram’s chatted a bit with Sharon and Alicia they were going
to do a run south to Vero instead of the Magellan run with us. We
departed at 10 am sharp with 14 brave people seeking an adventure.
On the departure we meet up with 2 more club members as we headed
out to Sebastian Inlet, and we couldn’t have timed that any
better, so now we had 16 ski’s doing the run. We headed out
of the inlet and met up one more time Tim took the lead and I stayed
back and brought up the rear. The sea’s where very nice to us
rolling swells with a very mild chop. Saw a lot of sea life, I saw
4 sea turtles, a large ray about 6 foot, saw a few schools of brown
rays. I also saw a very large manatee, or should I say sea cow. Also
I saw a shark in the Patrick Air force base area. That area is known
for sharks. It took us about 2 hours to get to Port Canaveral. We
made a stop about every 30 minutes. Which was good the throttle fingers
cramp up pretty easy. Need to get a cruise control for the next long
trip. At the Port we fueled up and headed to the “Locks”.
Did you know that the locks are full of Barnacles, and they can do
some serious damage to a jet ski!!! Well we had a couple of skis that
did get scratched up a bit. Might have some business for Curt at his
Maaco shop!?!? It took us about 20 – 30 minutes to get through
the locks after we got out of there we headed down to the River Roost.
Had a nice lunch, it was a good break after coming through the Port.
Headed out of the Roost about 2 o’clock and back down to Sebastian.
Dropped off people along the way. Some at Mathers Bridge area, and
Front Street. We had 5 skis left heading back to Long Point. We got
back about 4:30ish. All in all it was a great ride. We saw a lot of
wildlife, the seas where good, the people where good, and I’m
ready for the next ride.
Mary and I were very fortunate to be able to stay
in the area for four day’s we camped at Long Point had the
ski’s on the water and we would take a run in the morning
come back for lunch take another run in the afternoon / evening
hang out on the shoals area at the inlet. We had four families also
Tom Wilson from Titusville and Mike from Jupiter camping. So we
had about 16 people camping with us. We did a Clam Bake one night
which was very yummy. The club has talked about doing a campout
on an island in the intercoastal that might be an option at Long
Point.
We have a few pictures that will be on the web site
soon, check them out. That’s all I have for now hope to see
everyone this coming Saturday, guess we’re doing the St. Johns
from Lone Cabbage to SR 46 that will be a fun and pretty ride…..………
